How Students Calculate GPA

Before going to calculations I have to explain all about GPA.

What is GPA?

GPA is a grade point average that is your overall academic performance in a given semester. It is given in the form of digits and your hard works make these digits higher. Your GPA show how much you put efforts to attain excellent grades in the exams.  GPA is connected with grades and credit hours that are called quality points. These quality points are very important for your GPA.  Every subject’s grade is mention in the annual result and you can easily calculate your GPA. A simple form to calculate your GPA is given in the table below.

Grade
GPA
  A
  4.0
  B
  3.0
  C
  2.0
  D
  1.0
  F
  0.0

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA is grade point average and CGPA is cumulative grade point average. The difference between them is that the GPA is grade point average which could be determined for a single semester and CGPA is grade point average which could be determined for whole semester of the course. Hence a good CGPA depend upon the GPA of each semester of the course.

GPA Calculator

I am showing a table to demonstrate more clearly how students calculate GPA. The table consists of letters with positive and negative signs.

Grade
Grade Points
   A
       4.0
   A⁻
       3.67
   B⁺
       3.33
   B
       3.0
   B⁻
       2.67
   C⁺
       2.33
   C
       2
   C⁻
       1.67
   D⁺
       1.33
   D
       1
   D⁻
       0.67
   F
       0.0

Now for calculating GPA we need credit hours of each subject. Credit hours are awarded according to the number of classes you attend for a desire subject. Credit hours of each subject of the semester could be different but these are usually 3.
So I proceed further to explain you in detail.
I calculate GPA by the help of example.
The table that values I supposed is given below.

Subjects
Credit Hours
Grade
Grade Points
Quality points

Credit*G.points
Physics
3
A
4.0
3x4=12
Chemistry
3
  B⁺
3.33
3x3.33=9.99
Mathematics
3
D⁺
1.33
3x1.33=3.99
English
3
C⁻
1.67
3x1.67=5.01
General knowledge
3
A⁻
3.67
3x3.67=11.01

Total
15

  14
42

Now this GPA can be calculated easily by dividing credit hours 15 with quality points 42, this is given by;
GPA= quality points/credit hours
GPA= 42/15
GPA = 2.8
This is your actual GPA for given result.
By the help of this example you can find GPA of any semester of your course.

Every student's GPA shows how much he struggled for study and how much he achieved success. So it is necessary for students how to calculate GPA simply.
